An advantage for the laboratory staff of both IAH campuses is the provision of cell cultures and allied media, plus common buffered solutions and bacteriological media, by departments dedicated to their provision. In addition to cell lines, the skilled staff make primary cell cultures and organ cultures and, at Compton Laboratory, monoclonal antibodies. The departments also provide a sterilising service, and dispose of clinical waste.
Most staff at Pirbright Laboratory work in high containment laboratories and animal facilities, which requires them to have a complete change of clothing upon entering the restricted area, and to have a shower upon exit. These biosecurity resources are provided by a dedicated team of people.
