Bioinformatics can be described as the management, integration and analysis of biological data; it is key to the delivery of good science. Within the Bioinformatics Group we develop and implement software systems that support and enrich the research of the IAH.
Biological systems are inherently complex. The aim of bioinformatics is to understand the complex factors that underlie biological data and interactions. Bioinformatics addresses this problem by integrating data from several sources, and applying statistical methods to analyse that data. This provides insights into the behaviour of the system under study. The phrase "Systems Biology" has been coined to describe this approach.
Our bioinformatics activities can be split into two areas ? research and support.
