In September the Institute’s Director, Professor Martin Shirley, announced a new Science Strategy in which the focus will be on viruses affecting livestock and poultry, together with supporting scientific disciplines.
This followed an announcement by the Government in July of £100M of funding for the redevelopment of the Institute's Pirbright Laboratory, to produce a state-of-the-art research laboratory at Containment Level 3 and 4, plus other facilities, including insectaries for the study of vector-borne diseases.
