IAH has developed a robust polymerase chain reaction- (PCR-) based test to detect all 24 serotypes of bluetongue virus. This will be launched by Qiagen in 2009. Press release of 6 November 2008.
Over the last decade or so there have been increasing incursions of bluetongue viruses into Europe from its strongholds in parts of Africa and Asia, as shown on this map.
