The Institute for Animal Health (IAH) is based on two sites: Compton and Pirbright. In total the Institute employs some 400 staff and, at any one time, is host to up to 100 students and visiting scientists.

It is one of seven research institutes of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and is at the forefront of research into animal diseases.

The Institute also runs a number of annual courses/events for external people who are associated with the health of farm animals.
