Diagnosis & Notes:

male genitalia

The wing is pale; the second radial cell darkened and with a definite although sometimes indistinct dark spot just below the radial cells. The female AR is 1.08-1.15; the SD is 3, 5, 7, 9, 11-15 and occasionally also on either of 4, 6, 8 and 10. The male is easily recognised by its genitalia; the foot-shaped ventral root of the basistyle and the characteristic double-curved parameres, the ninth sternite membrane bare.

Biology:

Usually found early in the season; it has been recorded biting man.

Distribution:

From Ireland, Britain, France and Italy; Spain and Portugal and Israel.

Medical and Veterinary Importance:

Nothing known.
