Sources of income

The Institute receives a core strategic grant (approximately 25% of its income) from its sponsor, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). Approximately half of the Institute’s income comes from research contracts won from a variety of sources, including the BBSRC, Defra, the European Union, international agencies, industry, and charities. The rest comes from such sources as rents, royalties, sales of reagents and farm activity.
