Once the scourge of cattle throughout Europe, Africa and Asia, the causative agent of
cattle plague
, rinderpest virus, has been eradicated from the globe. The IAH's Dr John Anderson MBE and colleagues made
major contributions
to this great achievement, the first animal virus to be eradicated, and only
the second virus to be eliminated, the first being smallpox virus.
Wren Media's Susie Emmett interviewed Dr Anderson and IAH's Dr Michael Baron about this achievement for a
documentary "Waging War on Viruses" for the BBC World Service. You can
hear the interview
, with images, on YouTube. You can also see Dr Baron
outlining the achievement
in a video on the BBSRC website.
